Drinks

With a vast selection of bars and restaurants to drink in, you will never feel stuck for choice.

Tsipouro - Only available here in Skiathos, excellent local tipple its a very pure form of alcohol made from grapes using the skin and seeds. Nothing is added to the processing! Locals have Tsipouro with water and ice with a selection of mezes in the afternoon.

Ouzo - The traditional drink of Greece. This tastes very similar to Pernod or Sambuca and is usually served as an aperitif. It is often served alongside the traditional "meze", a dish of fish, olives, cheese etc.

Retsina - Resin of pinewood is used to chalk the barrels in which this wine is brewed. It is definitely an acquired taste, if you fancy it as a longer drink it also goes well with soda or lemonade.

Metaxa - This is Greek Brandy with a kick! It is available in 3, 5 or 7 stars, the increasing numbers denoting increase of quality.

Beer - The most common beers in Greece are Heineken and Amstel, excessive consumption of the latter leading to what is known as an "Amstelanche"! Mythos is a Greek beer that is also delicious on a hot day.

Wines - The local wines are surprisingly good and also relatively cheap.
Try:
